**Greetings from Laura and Jay: Reflecting on an Eventful Year**
Hello and welcome! I’m Laura, and my friend Jay. Thank you for taking the time to read our blog post. It’s been quite a year so far, hasn’t it? Hopefully, it has treated you well.
For me, the highlight was definitely attending a conference in Nanaimo, BC, back in May and early June. This wasn’t just any conference—it was with the Mission Self-Advocacy group and hosted by Inclusion BC, along with support from community living (CLBC) and other sponsors and participants. It was a fantastic opportunity, filled with learning and connections.
From May 30th to June 1st, we immersed ourselves in workshops led by inspiring speakers. Advocates from all parts of BC gathered, making the event vibrant and diverse. Information booths dotted the venue, offering insights and resources that enriched our experience. Plus, the organizers really took care of us; most days, meals were included, and the attention to detail made the three-day event even more enjoyable.
Personally, I arrived a day early on May 29th and stayed with a kind individual and their teenager. It was a chance to settle in and prepare for the enriching days ahead. Looking forward, the next conference is scheduled for 2025 in Richmond, which will be much closer to home for me, coming from Mission.
Conferences like these are more than just gatherings—they’re catalysts for change, forums for growth, and celebrations of community. They remind us of the power of advocacy and the strength found in unity. I’m grateful for the experiences and friendships forged during this eventful year.
Here’s to more adventures ahead and to staying connected with you, our readers. We appreciate your support and look forward to sharing more stories and insights with you soon.
Warm regards,
Laura
